This is a great opportunity to photograph some bald eagles. This is a road trip to Emory, TX. Emory is the bald eagle capital Texas. There are barge and bus tours to spot eagle. Blackland Prairie Raptor rescue will be giving educational programs with various birds. There is a small fee to enter and for the tour. You will want to pack your long lens and memory cards. The link for the festival is http://eaglefest.ezweb123.com/#.
We will be meeting at the Ractrac on 1382 just off I-20. We will be driving to Canton and then to Terrell. We pick 80 there. From 80 we get on 19/1567. In Emory we will take 69 to the Schools.
I haven't been there before, but would love to be there earlier to capture the sun rise with the Eagles and spend the rest of the day capturing other photos and getting to know you all.
Hope to see you all there and meet you as well.
There is no barge tour at 8AM. The first barge tour is at 7:00AM; the 2nd - 9:30Am; the 3rd - 11AM; the last tour at 2PM.
I don't really know. I'm debating. I talked to few local folks and they told me that the bus is better because it's taking you to the places where the eagles are. But don't take my word, because nobody knows for sure.
I'm new to this too. What is the barge tour? I'd like to go early too to catch the sunrise.
Valeta, click on the link above and you'll get all info about eagle fest.
I have been to this festival. I would recommend the bus tour. I did see an eagle on the tour. The festival is held in a high school. The buses are the one used by the school. The will be vendors and an raptors provided by a rescue group. I will have directions to the event site on Sat. There will be a ton of photographer. Meeting at the site in Grand Prairie will give you an idea who is there from our group. I will provide my cell number the night before.
Greg I can drive 30 minutes West to drive 1 1/2 hours East. I really want to be involved in this group and get to know you all. Please let me know when you arrive and I will come meet you all. My cell number is 972-658-2409.
Greg D. - I will meet you in Grand Prairie as you suggest. You've done this and I have faith in you. Charles Quinn - I've got your cell, and I will make sure to call you if the organizer is too busy.
Guys, where are we meeting? I read their site and its said Rains School Campus. Is this our place to meet? At what time?
Remember this club has 2,000+ members. The meetup location is listed.
Why don't we just meet in Emory.

This small school. There will be wall to wall photographers. You will not know who is from our group.
I am all about meeting somewhere in Emory or Greenville. Just let me know I have posted my cell # in the other comment.
Please do not post other meeting times or places. It creates headaches and confusion. If you can't make the gp location contact me. I will provide my cell number. I have been to this event before there is a reason it structured like this.
Greg can you send me your cell number? I will meet the group there.
Greg, do we need to buy tickets to a bus tour in advance? Or there in a spot?
Greg D - I posted a secondary meet up place. Sorry. You are right. Didn't think about it adding to the confusion. Will never do that again. Everyone is clearly excited about this and I don't want to screw anything up that you're putting a lot of effort into for everyone.
Greg D - Can you provide directions to the event site before Saturday for those who can't meet in GP?
I'm driving in from Garland, I'm thinking about going on the barge tour at 9 or 11AM. Is this something we are planning on doing as a group? Or will you be assisting in locating the eagles and doing our own tour? I'm trying to clarify from all the posts. Where are we meeting at in Emory?
We are meeting Grand Prairie and going to Emory. I would recommend the bus tour. The idea is go on the tours as a group. There isn't much in Emory. This is a small country high school. I will not be conducting any tours. I would suggest the bus tours. You can pay for the tours at the festival. I will lead any possible discussions on photographing wildlife and lens doublers. Any discussion of other meeting points will be deleted. I will provide my cell number before the event.
Is this the tour? http://www.emorytx.com/2012_EagleFest_Schedule.pdf![]()

Donna, me too. Greg D perhaps you could all stop some where and get some funny hats to wear so we can find you ?
I will be wearing a purple TCU Horn Frogs ball cap and probably a pair of tall suede boots to keep my feet warm. :-)
I'm planning to meet up in Emory and going on a bus tour at 9:30AM

Hey guys! I was able to get the contact number for the guy who does the eagle count! Next year we will have two opportunities to photograph these magnificent birds.
Very nice pics,I am upset since I couldn't make it..!
HELP !!!! I have an occasional problem that I am unable to resolve.
If you look at the last picture (mine) posted as of tonight of a bird in flight, and you click on it to maximize it, you will notice a thin line along the bottom of the bird's left wing that does not contain anything. It it is very thin. It appears to be just empty sky but the trees in the background should be in it. Any idea what causes this void area ???
Hey guys, has anybody of you been there before? It's my first time and don't know what to expect. Are we(as a group) going to meet there? Are you planning to take a tour on a bus or barge? Which one has a better chance to see eagles on a wild? The first barge is leaving at 7AM. Anybody plans to be there that early?
